Leaving L4ND: a message from Samuel Kind

As 2023 draws to a close, we can look back on what has been an important year in Labour's journey towards electoral reform.

It's also a bittersweet moment for me - because this is my final month as Campaign Organiser at Labour for a New Democracy.

From early next year, I'll be taking up a new role with the Labour Party in Yorkshire and Humber - and hopefully helping to deliver the Labour government the UK so desperately needs.

What began as a three-week internship during the pandemic turned into a three-year role and my first real job.

It's been an delightful experience - thanks not only to the brilliant staff team, but to the amazing volunteers, activists and supporters I've gotten to know over the phone, in WhatsApp groups and at conferences and events all around the country. I couldn't have asked for a better start in the working world.

It's also been incredibly exciting to be part of a campaign that has made such amazing progress on such an important issue.

Proportional Representation has gone from a niche issue in the Labour Party to one supported by the vast majority of the membership, trade unions and annual conference. For the first time, the official party programme recognises that our current voting system is contributing to distrust and alienation in politics.

All of this is thanks to the determination of Labour members and affiliates like you. It has been a privilege to be part of it.

Next year, Labour has the chance to kick the Tories out of office and deliver the change Britain needs. I know the #Labour4PR campaign will continue pushing for reform of the flawed voting system at the heart of our democracy - and building on the historic progress made to date. They'll be in touch in January about how you can get involved.

Thank you for a brilliant few years. The direction of the Labour movement is clear: it's time for PR.
